I'm such a slacker

I know I try to blog every day and really dropped the ball this week. I've just been so freakin' busy.

Monday I had a funk horn recording session for Thrillville. Tuesday I was working late for the Registrar of Voters (we had an election here in California). And then the rest of the week I've been cranking away on either cutscenes for Lego II or script stuff for Thrillville.

Script writing is fun. I'm not sure what, if anything, of mine will end up in the game; but so far the response has been pretty positive. Hopefully some of it will end up in there. I'd love to have a writing credit of some kind on a game.

Amanda and I are charging ahead trying to plan our wedding. And you know what?

WEDDINGS ARE FREAKING EXPENSIVE!!!

Honestly, anytime you contact any kind of wedding-related vendors, they basically just say the same thing:

"Thanks for getting in touch with us. We fully appreciate your stacks of cash interest in our event hall/photography services/tart bakery/whatever. Please feel free to come down to our business between the hours of 1:30 and 1:45 any day of the week and begin dropping off gobs of money. Or, if you'd prefer, you can just leave your ATM card with us and we'll go ahead and rape your bank account. Thanks and congrats on your special day!"

Non-wedding events in the same spaces are cheaper. Corporate events are cheaper. Weddings, though, are freakin' ridiculous. Amanda and I decided we were just going to call our wedding a "Tuxedo Meeting" and get it for a cheaper rate. Otherwise, these places are all going to blow our budget.

Anyway, we're trying to look at a number of places this weekend. Hopefully we can lock something down by the end of next week. That's our goal, anyway. We really want to move ahead with planning this thing. So many details left to figure out ... The word "elope" has already come up wishfully a couple of times.

what do you mean "wishfully"? If you both want to elope... you elope. right? or did it come up wishfully for only one of you?

what's their justification for charging more for weddings? that seems like price gouging to me...

It's come up wishfully for both of us. However, our wedding is something bigger than an event solely for us.

Amanda is her family's only daughter. Both of us have grandparents who are very old. After six years of dating, her parents still haven't ever met my dad. Etc. Etc. There are a lot of reasons why having a ceremony for our families is important to the both of us.

But planning this thing is stressful and sometimes we wish we could just throw our hands up in the air and elope. In reality, we won't. A ceremony means something to us and to people close to us.

As for why weddings are more, I honestly don't know. If I was to venture a guess, it might have to due with the higher chance of there being children around for weddings than for corporate events. Children run around, mess with things they shouldn't, and very often break things. The higher cost for weddings might just effectively be child insurance. That's the only thing I can think of.

The key to your theory is how much they charge to rent for birthday parties.

You need to call your local news guy who GET'S TO THE STORY! You know, they guy in every town who goes after crum-bums?

Yeah, it's a total scam. One place we looked at was $800 for a corporate event or party, but $3200 for a wedding in the same space. Uh, hello? That's 4x the price. Ridiculous.

My mom just told me a story about how her friend was planning a wedding, and called a place saying she wanted to have her "event" there (not knowing about said scam).. they quoted her a price, and when she went in to sign the contract, a different person helped her. Well, she told the person how she was excited, and it was for her wedding, and the person said, "Uh, that's not what we charge for weddings." And my mom's friend said, "What do you mean? I was quoted this price on the phone.." and eventually, after arguing about how weddings aren't any different from parties, and how it's a total scam, they charged her the price she was quoted.

Scam.
